Raised Beds

In a sloping garden raised beds can be utilised as terracing. Within the context of a courtyard garden they are ideal for containment of growth and spread of plants. Raised beds are also extremely flexible in their practical usage. They can be used for growing herbs, salads or vegetables, this is made even more advantageous as the soil structure and conditions can be controlled from the outset. Also, as the soil isn’t compacted by the gardener walking on them, roots have an easier time in their growth.

The elevated nature of raised beds means that the soil is warmed more quickly by the sun and will also always be well drained.

Raised beds can also be used simply as a contained bed for shrubs and flowers, especially those that thrive on this good drainage. Some gardeners use them for a supply of cut flowers for the home.

An obvious advantage of waist high raised beds is the comfort and convenience it affords for those tending them with limited mobility.

They can be constructed from FSC certified timber, brick, stone or concrete panels.
