Gravel Works

A simple but beautifully rustic solution to creating footpaths, access areas or driveways is to utilise any number of gravels. They come in dozens of different colours, sizes and textures. From 40mm paddle stones and pebbles to 20mm slate chippings to 14mm down to 1mm self binding gravels.

With proper sub-base and water permeable membrane laid correctly any odd weed is easily pulled free as the roots cant purchase into the sub-soil.

Also available are resin bound gravels, an alternative way to achieve the aesthetic beauty of the natural stone gravels but the finished product is hard and clean. The stone is mixed with a clear UV stable aliphatic polymer resin to form a mixture which is poured and then hand trowelled to a smooth surface.

Colours vary according to the choice of stone, maybe flint, granite, spar, marble, moonstone or basalt, to name a few. So, according to preference, you could decide on red, golden brown, white, pink, green, silver grey, plum blue, dark brown or multicoloured pea-gravel. For the more modern minded, nowadays you could even use recycled glass for a real decorative presence.

All are self draining and are clean dry surfaces. Optionally, they can all also be laid with the new generation of honeycomb gravel stabilisation system. Durable enough for car traffic and helps to stop gravel migration. Designed using high quality injection moulded recycled polypropelene which is 100% recyclable.

An effective and pleasing mix of materials is to lay flagstones through the gravel, along the most used thoroughfare like stepping stones. The best of both worlds one could say.
